Charles Leclerc’s F1 story so far
Charles Leclerc is Scuderia Ferrari’s hope for the team’s Formula 1 future, and the Monegasque driver has already shown a lot in his four-year Formula 1 journey with Sauber and Ferrari.
Leclerc came into Formula 1 as the 2017 Formula 2 champion after a dominant season and he quickly established himself as one of the best young drivers in the grid. He scored 39 points for the team in the 2018 Formula 1 World Championship, which proved to be the difference between Sauber and close competitors, Toro Rosso and Williams.
In his first Formula 1 season, Leclerc’s performances earned him praise in the paddock, and he earned a Ferrari seat for the 2019 campaign as Kimi Raikkonen’s replacement. In 2019, Leclerc’s first year with Ferrari, he definitely put his name among the best of the grid.
Leclerc grabbed the first Pole Position of his career in his second race with the Scuderia, and eventually won two races at historic circuits, Spa-Francorchamps and at Ferrari’s home track, Monza.
The Monegasque ended his first campaign for Ferrari in fourth place in the World Championship with 264 points, two wins, 10 podiums and led the season with seven Pole Positions.
For the 2020 campaign, Leclerc and Ferrari struggled to stay among the best teams in the grid, but the Monegasque racer still scored 98 points and finished eighth in the WDC, with two podiums.
Now in his fourth Formula 1 season, Leclerc has shown consistency and good speed on Saturdays, earning Pole Position at his home race and Azerbaijan.
A widely known fact about Leclerc is the relationship he had with former F1 driver Jules Bianchi, who was his godfather and seemed destined to drive for Ferrari before a tragic accident in the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix.
Throughout his F1 career, Leclerc has paid homage to Bianchi while wearing a badge with Bianchi’s initials and racing number (17). Leclerc has often worn commemorative helmets to pay respect to Ferrari’s history, his father, and has even competed with the design from his karting days.
Going forward, Formula 1 fans should be eager to see what the 23-year-old Grand Prix winner can achieve in his career. Leclerc has given Formula 1 fans several great moments in his short career as he is fierce in wheel-to-wheel battle.
Furthermore, Leclerc’s career could be long and successful, and the collection of unique charles leclerc helmets could also become iconic.
So far, Leclerc has two wins, 12 podiums, 459 points, nine Pole Positions and four Fastest Laps in his Formula 1 journey, which only includes 66 starts.
Will he become the next Scuderia Ferrari’s Formula 1 World Champion? We can only wait, but Leclerc has the potential to become a record-breaker in motor racing under the right circumstances.
